Recently, on August 21, 2010, Greg Oden and Team Oden were at Big Al’s in Vancouver for the Summer Slam! 200 mentors and youth registered to join Greg Oden for an afternoon of bowling and free arcade games at Big Al’s Bowling and Arcade.
This annual event was one of the two main events that Greg Oden hosts each year to say thank you to the youth and mentors who work so well together all year as part of Team Oden. It was a rockin’, bowling good time for everyone!
Nicolas Batum was recently interviewed by DIME Magazine’s Auston Burton about his upcoming season and thoughts on the Portland Trail Blazers, the team for which Greg Oden has been playing center position. Recently Batum has been spending time practicing his game, focusing on dribbling, ball shooting and offense tactics as well as other parts of his game, to ensure he is fully prepared for the next season. He is proud of how the Blazers as a team work together, believing the “chemistry is right” for it. As well, he understands the importance of players really taking care of themselves in the off-season so that they are able to really play their positions at top capacity. That’s definitely good advice for all members of the Portland Trail Blazers.
Here’s a great video called, the “Greg Oden, Daequan Cook, & Mike Conley Jr. NBA Mix ‘Following Goals.’” Having just completed their 3rd annual Oden, Conley & Cook Buckeye Stars Basketball Camp, these pros spice it up for this video as we enjoy paying tribute to them and their talent.
If you’re one of the kids who was lucky enough to enjoy the Buckeye Star Basketball Camp, you’ve probably made lasting memories this summer. The Buckeye Star Basketball Camp with former Ohio State Buckeye Stars Greg Oden, Mike Conley and Daequan Cook ran from July 28-30 this year. It took place at the Worthington Kilbourne High School in Worthington, Ohio from 9-12 each morning.
The camp was run through ProCamps Worldwide which is an international event management company. They help professional athletes in the National Basketball Association, the National Football League, and other organizations to develop their personal sports camps and other events.
Since 1998, they’ve helped more than 40 famous athletes to operate their important camps, helping children to learn a valuable skill while building their self esteem and learning teamwork.
In fact, not really all that much. Not much has happened so far this summer for the Portland Trail Blazers as fans have been waited with baited breath for news as to which direction the team is heading. According to a reporter from The Oregonian, the team is “taking its time in free agency while actively pursuing small level trades” in the hunt for a new General Manager. The reporter also claimed that the team is scrutinizing three guards: San Antonio’s Roger Mason, Utah’s Wesley Matthews and the Lakers’ Jordan Farmar. But this doesn’t seem to excite any of the team’s fans. Perhaps they’re still awaiting the return of their center player Greg Oden.
The Portland Trail Blazers achieved many of their goals this past season. In fall practices, they actually wore T-shirts with the slogan 1516 on them, symbolizing their aim of becoming one of the 16 teams to make the playoffs. And make it they did.
In addition, with players like Brandon Roy and Greg Oden, they also won back their fan base.
As coach Nate McMillan said, “They had an unbelievable year. “I loved what they did this season. They showed potential to be a good team, to be a playoff team, to be co-champions. But they need to take another step.”
Fans look forward to watching that step this coming season.
What could be more fun than getting to be part of the Buckeye Star Camp? Not much except, perhaps, getting to enjoy it with former Ohio State men’s basketball players and current NBA players Mike Conley, Daequan Cook and Greg Oden. These three big names will be in Worthington, Ohio from July 28-30 at the camp. The first session is from 9 a.m. to noon and the second session is from 1-4 p.m.
What can you expect from Greg Oden and the other two at the camp? These former Buckeyes will be around to help direct camp activities and to provide instruction to lucky campers. The camp specializes in building players’ fundamental skills and the team concept of basketball.
The recent firing of Trail Blazers General Manager Kevin Pritchard has shocked the NBA world. Pritchard was “the same general manager who helped lead the Blazers away from its old ‘Jail Blazer’-days to a team that ultimately won respect for both its off-court transformations and on-court performances.” It was Pritchard who picked Greg Oden as 1st overall in the 2008 NBA Draft. The man really did a lot for the team, “transforming them from a team full of players causing trouble all around the Portland-area to a team full of top-class citizens and a team that is on its way to being an elite-level NBA basketball club.” Many people are in shock that a team would “fire the man who single-handedly changed the fortunes of their team.”
According to recent news, Greg Oden is hoping to be back on court by the middle of July 2010. Right now Oden’s training regime comprises a number of different types of workout, including treadmill walking, pool jogging and bike riding. Oden is looking forward to coming back to play for the Portland Trail Blazers and said “I just want to get back on the court and show what I can do.” He is ready and optimistic.
